Favourite Tipples of the Famous

Is there anything better than sipping on your favourite drink, maybe the sun is shining, maybe you are sitting outside beneath the stars, or perhaps inside on a cold winter’s eve, but when the first taste of the liquid hits your lips, the world can melt away (especially if it is absinthe based) in delicious happiness. We wanted to find out what famous individuals' favourite drinks were: some drank in moderation, some in excess, but we wanted to see if there was any pattern between the drink, the individuals and the category they were in; what we found was highly interesting! For instance, a whole art scene was created with absinthe at the centre of it. Van Gogh, a name most people have heard of, took huge inspiration from the drink in his paintings, often using an absinthe green as part of his colour scheme or sometimes even as the subject matter for his work; he did also cut off his ear in an apparent drink-fuelled frenzy, so swings and roundabouts… Napoleon was also an absinthe drinker, as was Oscar Wilde, so the intense nature of these individuals may have a flection on the intense drink they favour. Writers, on the other hand, mostly all had their own individual cocktails, with some truly awful sounding drinks like Hangman’s Blood (see the infographic below), which was Anthony Burgess’ favourite tipple.
